The Guild Singers- Chorley’s chamber choir
The Guild Singers ( formed in 1980) is a mixed voice choir of about 40 singers who perform about three concerts a year. Mostly these take place in St. Laurence’s church in Chorley. The choir was formed with the aim of singing the whole range of music both accompanied and a capella; from the renaissance music of Byrd and Tallis to great oratorios such as Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” and Handel’s ” Messiah”. More recent performances have included the Sunrise Mass by Ola Gjeilo, Howard Goodall’s Requiem and Paul Mealor’s Stabat Mater. We have also sung for Evensong at Blackburn cathedral . On the lighter side we enjoy singing a wide variety of arrangements of well-known Pop and Jazz standards.
