The Guild Singers- Chorley’s chamber choir
The Guild Singers ( formed in 1980) is a mixed voice choir of about 40 singers who perform about three concerts a year. Mostly these take place in St. Laurence’s church in Chorley. The choir was formed with the aim of singing the whole range of music both accompanied and a capella; from the renaissance music of Byrd and Tallis to great oratorios such as Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” and Handel’s ” Messiah”. More recent performances have included the Sunrise Mass by Ola Gjeilo, Howard Goodall’s Requiem and Paul Mealor’s Stabat Mater. We have also sung for Evensong at Blackburn cathedral over the past two years and work closely with Shaun Turnbull who is their Assistant Director of Music. On the lighter side we enjoy singing a wide variety of arrangements of well-known Pop and Jazz standards.
